“Something Good” (for Janna & Mike)

5 Nov

Spring of ’73 my friends Mike & Janna got married and asked me to sing for their wedding. I wrote a song  for it, “Something Good”. It was about them, but I’d just started meditating, and maybe it was about that, too.

Mike was an artist, total comics freak, and explorer of astral planes, Janna his

life-line, anchor. Their wedding was outside Metropolis in a meadow, at the bottom of a hill. In my memory the sky’s cerulean & the grass emerald. Mike walked down one side of the hill with his friends, Janna down the other with hers. I was a the bottom with the preacher, singing “Something Good”.

I don’t want to brag,  but Mike and Janna are still happily married.

A recording of “Something Good” is below, it’s lyrics under that.

Something Good

Something’s got you singing

a new song every day

Something’s got you smiling

as you walk along your way

Chorus:

Something good has come into your life

something fair & beautiful to see

something good has come today

Now you don’t know why

but you’re laughing

& your fears have flown away

you can’t fight the feeling

that’s filling up your hearts, and

(Chorus)

Now your true love takes your hand

at your side is your best friend

All around loved ones stand

Your eyes fall on the sunlight

that dances cross the clouds

A river flows inside you, its current deep & strong

(Chorus)

The song’s on my About Time CD.

Here’s a a play list of the songs on my album About Time, 12 of them, all originals. I recorded it a million years ago and just gave it a listen again the other day. I’m still happy with how it came out. Ah, maybe we got a little too exuberant with the instruments here and there, stepped on the vocals occasionally, but I like the album’s energy, and honestly, I think we were playing our butts off. I’m still proud of the songs, too; glad I got em all down on a recording. Check em out:

If any of the songs hit you where you live, the good news is they’re available about anywhere that sells music downloads. The CD of the album is available, too at http://www.cdbaby.com.

And check out the songs on my other album, Live at Custer Street here: https://dumbfoundingstories.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=456&action=edit

Time Is A blue Sky

ABOUT TIME, COVER

ABOUT TIME, COVER

I wrote “Time Is A blue Sky” around 1975, and finally got around to recording it (for About Time) in 2000. It was last summer, August of 2014, though, before I ever got around to playing it out. I don’t know why. I work in mysterious ways–like you know who. Anyway, better late than never. I could’ve have played it worse that night, could’ve done it better, but I’m going to post a video of the performance here, because–knowing me–it might be another forty years before I get around to playing it out again. I’m gonna put the studio version up here first, because I think it’s better. For one thing Lee Kromer played some nice harp licks on it, and I dubbed in a little electric guitar that turned out OK. The Lyrics are under the studio recording audio, and the video of the live version is below the lyrics.

TIME IS A BLUE SKY WHERE CLOUDS DRIFT,

OUR LOVE A RAINBOW THAT FILLED THE SKY

CHORUS:

THOUGH I LEARNED TO LIVE WITHOUT YOU,

EVERY THOUGHT I HAVE OF YOU GLOWS WITH LOVE

YOU WERE A HEALER, MY FRIEND BY CHOICE

YOU SOOTHED MY FEARS–AND LEFT ONE DAY

CHORUS

MAY PEACE FLOW ALL THROUGH YOUR LIFE

MAY YOUR SOUL GROW ALL THROUGH YOUR LIFE

TIME IS A BLUE SKY WHERE CLOUDS DRIFT,

OUR LOVE A RAINBOW THAT FILLED THE SKY
